In a Natural Light

Standard edition sold out

The Wildlife Art of Chris Rose

Limited edition copies £95

This is my first solo book and focuses on my paintings of British birds. Many of the pictures are of common species seen in the countryside around my home in the Scottish Borders.

In one painting, a robin basks in winter sunshine in the tangled branches of a hawthorn tree behind the artist’s studio, while in Making Waves a mallard leads her brood of ducklings across a pond.

I have a fascination with water and delight in its myriad effects and in the challenges it presents to the painter, and this book contains many paintings where water in some form or other is the main theme.

Each painting is given a double page spread and is accompanied by a light-hearted but informative commentary describing the inspirational background to the picture and details of the creative processes involved in painting it.

Field sketches and paintings are shown next to some of the pictures, and pencil drawings are liberally scattered throughout the book.

In his foreword to the book, Robert Gillmor, the well-respected wildlife artist and co-founder of the Society of Wildlife Artists, writes;

This book is timely. Chris and his art have matured and he is now a formidable player in wildlife art. We are privileged to have this survey of his work to date, and can only look forward in anticipation to what he will be producing for us in the years to come.
