Woodpecker
Many years ago I did a black and white scraperboard illustration of a great spotted woodpecker on the bole of an elm tree and this linocut revisits that idea, although it is a totally different picture. I deliberately didn't cleanly cut away all of the white space around the bird, leaving a few flecks of black to give an impression of movement and to hint at the idea of chips of wood flying off from the woodpecker's chiselling.
