'Ten tits'
Long-tailed tits are regular visitors to my bird feeders and in winter they arrive in extended family groups of a dozen or more. They buzz about, constantly chattering to each other with excited churring calls and on discovering the nut basket they descend en masse in a confusion of black, pink and white fluff with their long tails pointing in every direction. I have seen as many as twelve birds crowd on to the nuts together.
I wanted to convey this atmosphere of constant, frenetic activity and so I deliberately left some un-cut marks in the white space surrounding the birds to give a sense of movement.
