King surfers

On a beach on Saunders Island in the Falkands I watched this small group of king penguins amble down to the sea with their comical, ungainly waddle. Once in the water, however, they became lithe and agile swimmers. They seemed to play in the surf with confident exuberance, revelling in their mastery of this watery environment. I loved the contrast of the almost mint-green icy water with the vivid orange and black of the penguins' plumage.
