Just below the birdbox that contains his growing and hungry brood of chicks a male house sparrow takes the weight off his feet and briefly rests in the afternoon sun on the balcony rail outside my kitchen.

Covid-19 lockdown has meant finding pleasure and interest in the wildlife literally at our doorsteps.
