Salt marsh sentinel

Oil on board, 38 x 38 inches

This is an early morning in March at Sunderland Point, Morecambe Bay.

I was inspired by the repeating pattern of this peculiar, hummocked salt marsh and the way it subtly changed form as it receded into the distance.

The low morning sun cast long shadows and infused the scene with rich colours. The ever-present redshanks could continually be heard, piping their familiar alarm call as they flitted between the muddy channels.
